If you haven't yet registered with the OCDSB for Kindergarten, please follow this LINK when you are ready to do so. You will want to check the School Locator first to make sure that your address falls within the boundaries for SMPS. Registration will require you providing 2 proofs of address, as well as proof of date of birth for your child that you are registering. We also ask that you complete the OCDSB Kindergarten Parent Questionnaire - these can be dropped off at our school office between 10am and 2pm on a school day, or emailed to the office at stevemacleanps@ocdsb.ca
The OCDSB Family Reception Centre is designed to help you if English is not your first language. Staff can also assist with new Permanent Residents to Canada, families returning from abroad or transferring from a French language school board. You can call the Family Reception Centre at (613) 239-2416 to make an appointment.
If you have any further questions you can contact the SMPS Main office by telephone at (613) 822-0341 or by email at stevemacleanps@ocdsb.ca
This website contains a lot of information that we hope that you will find useful. We look forward to welcoming you back to school in June for our Kindergarten Open House event, and to having your child join us for kindergarten in September 2024!
Sincerely,
SMPS
Some fun facts about Kindergarten:
Kindergarten is a two-year, full-day program with classes composed of students in Year 1 and Year 2
Kindergarten is a bilingual, play-based program where students are exposed to both French and English
Each Kindergarten class has an educator team that includes Teachers and Early Childhood Educators. At SMPS, an English Kindergarten Teacher and French Kindergarten Teacher each spend one week at a time with their class in our 50/50 bilingual model.
Extended Day Program (EDP) is a fee based program that is offered before and after school. Early Childhood Educators who work in the Kindergarten classes during the school day are part of the EDP program, providing a seamless day for students
Kindergarten is the best place to be!
“The Kindergarten program is a child-centred, developmentally appropriate, integrated program of learning for four- and five-year-old children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years and to do so in a safe and caring, play-based environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of all children.”
