Measures of Student Achievement and Success

The Steve MacLean Public School teachers work collaboratively to ensure consistency in our assessment practices. Staff members are regularly in-serviced on the latest OCDSB initiatives concerning programming, differentiation, assessment and evaluation.

PM Benchmarks, GB+ and CASI are some of the many tools used by teachers to obtain data on our students and to assist in planning for effective instruction.

Student progress and achievement is formally reported to parents on one progress report and two report cards a year and at scheduled parent / teacher interviews. After the first report card, all of our students participate in Student-Led Conferencing where they demonstrate their achievements over the year by reviewing the contents of their portfolios with their parents.

Our grade 3 and grade 6 students participate in provincial testing (EQAO) in late May.

School Improvement Plans and Initiatives

The school improvement plan for Steve MacLean Public School focuses on applying critical thinking skills across the curriculum to build deeper meaning of texts, to solve problems and make informed decisions as measured by ongoing indicators of progress.

In the area of School Climate, we continue to work with all stakeholders to develop our students’ character traits such as empathy, perseverance, risk taking, honesty and respect. We use our school mascots (Stars) to visit the classrooms as students share authentic experiences to depict a particular character trait.
